Niche, Platform, & Content
You need to identify your niche and establish a platform first so you can then have a place to write/add content. Ideally, you should get traffic BEFORE creating an Amazon account. Once you sign up, you have 3 months to make 3 sales. If you don’t, then your application will be deleted. It is my understanding though that you would be able to turn right back around and get approved again. Still a pain since you will need to go back and redo all of your links to Amazon.
Niche selection is an important step! Find what you’re passionate about. It’s easier to create content around something you genuinely care about and know a bit about already.
Platform
Okay, so let’s say you selected Fitness as your Niche. Now – you need a platform so you can share your content (and Amazon Affiliate Links) with the world. You can do this in 3 main ways:
Website or Blog: A blog allows you to write product reviews, tutorials, and how-to guides with embedded affiliate links. My recommendation for a solid website platform is Wealthy Affiliate!
Social Media: Accounts like Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok are great for showcasing products through visuals or video. You will be able to add your Social Media accounts to your website, YouTube Channel, etc.
Email Marketing: Build an email list to share curated product recommendations.
Content
So now you have a platform and with Fitness as the Niche of your website, YouTube Channel, etc. you will be writing & making articles, posts, or videos based around fitness. Once you have content and start receiving traffic, then it’s time to Apply with Amazon.
Now- think ahead here! If you are wanting to add Amazon affiliate links- then you will need to write articles/make videos around the products that are on Amazon. If you have a website on Rolex watches (just for example)- then- you will NOT find an Amazon Affiliate link for Rolex watches.
In your content.. Authenticity is key. Write like you’re talking to a friend. Share your real experiences and how the products make a difference in your life. This approach not only builds trust but also genuinely helps people make informed decisions.
Sign Up for Amazon Associates
Once you are getting more traffic on your Website, You Tube Channel, etc. , then you should move forward with applying to Amazon. In my opinion, this is one of the easiest Affiliate Programs to apply for!
Go to the Amazon Associates website. Click “Sign Up” and provide the necessary details (name, website, or social media channel).
Once submitted, Amazon will review your application. When I first applied, I was accepted immediately.
Find and Promote Amazon Products
Okay- so once you are approved, you will now find products on Amazon that align with your Niche/Content.
Sticking with our Fitness Example, let’s say you wrote an Article on the The Best Selling Women’s Running Shoes. You researched & know that all or a few of the shoes on this list are shoes selling on Amazon. Use the Amazon Associates dashboard to generate unique affiliate links for products. You will type in “Best Selling Women’s Running Shoes”, Select one of the specific running shoes, and then select Link> Copy Link.
Here is what this looks like below. (I am using my account I have for one of my websites- BusyBeeSimplicity.com)
Within your fitness site, you will have a wide range of products you can promote with Amazon. Just so you could see how this works- this is how I add products within my Articles/Blog Posts. Of course this image below/affiliate links would be tied into the article on “Best Women’s Running Shoes”.
I added an image of the Running Shoes (and added the Amazon Link to this image), and I also added this Amazon Button (which I also added the link to). When you are an Amazon Affiliate, you can use any of the Amazon images!
Other types of content you can add links to include:
- Product Reviews: Write or record reviews highlighting the features, benefits, and downsides.
- Tutorials: Show how to use a product effectively.
- Top Lists: Share curated lists like “Top 10 Nature-Inspired T-Shirts for Outdoor Enthusiasts.”
